Dale Whitener

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Dale Elmo Whitener, 71, of Marble Hill died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at his home from injuries received in a farm tractor accident.

He was born May 18, 1933, in Saco, Mo., son of Roy F. and Carrie Settle Whitener. He and Ruth Jeanette Lincoln were married April 13, 1957, in St. Louis.

Whitener retired as a crane operator with Laclede Steel, and then was a bus driver 17 years with Southeast Missouri Transit System. He was a member of Cape Bible Chapel in Cape Girardeau.

He served with the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier Yorktown during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Eric Whitener of Collinsville, Ill.; two daughters, Kim Belanger of Champaign, Ill., Jill Whitener of Belleville, Ill.; three brothers, Ray Whitener of Apache Junction, Ariz., Cecil Whitener of St. Louis, Roscoe Whitener of Imperial, Mo.; a sister, Ruby Slinkard of Apache Junction; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Friends may call at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Dan Green officiating. Burial will be in Marble Hill Cemetery, with full military honors by Missouri Military Honors Team.
