Dale Neville Stewart, 90, of Overland Park, Kansas, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at his home.
He was born Sept. 25, 1924, in Cape Girardeau, to James Dallas and Jewell Horn Stewart.
After graduating from Central High School in Cape Girardeau, Dale enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps, where he served as a radio gunner on the B17 "The Joker" and executed his first mission on D-Day. For his brave service, Dale was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal, and was recognized by the governments of Poland, France and Russia for his efforts.
Following his honorable discharge from military service, Dale graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in business.
Following graduation, Dale began his career with Commonwealth Theaters as a relief projectionist. He would go on to retire from Commonwealth more than 50 years later as president and CEO.
Dale is a former member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Blue Hills Country Club and the Variety Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jewell Stewart; four siblings; and a grandson, Jack Stewart.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Mary McCawley Stewart of Overland Park; two sons, James "Mac" Stewart and wife Patty and Patrick Stewart and wife Ann of Dallas; two daughters, Mary Bridget Stewart of Overland Park and Ann Frances Stewart of Kansas City; three grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park.
