BELL CITY, Mo.-- Dale Edward Shumaker, 85, of Bell City passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston, Mo.
He was born June 1, 1920, in Charlotte, Mich., son of Ralph P. and Celia Edick Shumaker. He and Iris Lee Oakley were married Oct. 14, 1944. She died Sept. 16, 2005.
Loving survivors include a dear granddaughter and husband, Danie and Marc McIntosh of Bel Aire, Kan.; a dear grandson and wife, Dale and Heather Anthony of Edmond, Okla.; dear son-in-law, Fred W. Anthony of Derby, Kan.; three dear great-grandchildren, Lauren Jeane and Grace Lynn Anthony of Edmond, Julianna Morgan and Joseph McIntosh of Bel Aire; a brother and his wife, Gale and Joanne Shumaker of Michigan; two sisters, Ila Klassen of Charlotte, and Clara Franks of Odessa, Mo.
Dale was preceded in death by his only child, Jeane Dale Shumaker Anthony; four brothers and four sisters.
After graduating from high school Dale joined the National Guard and was soon activated since World War II had begun. He served five years in the U.S. Army, three of them in the Aleutian Islands. He was honorably discharged Oct. 5, 1945, as a staff sergeant.
He worked as a tester for Pet Milk Co. in Charlotte. He later was a warehouse manager in Sikeston, Mo., and DeKalb, Ill.
Dale was a member of Bell City United Methodist Church, where he had been a former usher and Sunday school teacher. Dale was a friend to all and known in his community for his willingness to help when and where he could.
He was a Boy Scout leader and extremely proud of his four Eagle scouts. For many years he worked with Little League and managed teams in Bell City, Oran and New Hamburg, Mo. He was a certified Missouri girls softball umpire and boys baseball umpire. He was a former Tri County Little League president and Missouri State Girls Softball president.
Dale was on the original board of directors of Bell City Community Building.
Dale and Iris Lee were grateful to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary in October 2004 at their home.
Friends may call at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance, Mo., from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
