CAIRO, Ill. -- C.W. "Slick" Stevens, 80, of Cairo died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at Daystar Care Center in Cairo.
He was born June 29, 1922, in Miller City, Ill., son of the late Americus and Fleecy Bauer Stevens. He married Mary M. Stevens. She preceded him in death September 2001.
He attended Cairo Baptist Church and was the owner of Cache Repair Company. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Cairo Masonic Lodge 237 A.F. and A.M., having served as past master. He was a lifetime member of the Cairo VFW, a York and Scottish Rite Mason, a member of the AINAD Shrine Temple and the K.I.M. Shrine.
Survivors include two sons, Herbert Washam of Cairo and Billy Joe Washam of Miller City; two brothers, Dan Stevens of Oklahoma and Bob Stevens of Miami; a sister, Nina Klapp of Bloomington, Ind; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at 5 p.m. today at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo. Masonic funeral rites will begin at 7 p.m. today at the funeral chapel. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Dr. Larry L. Potts officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds, Ill., with military rites conducted by Mounds VFW.
