Curtis J. Miller, 88, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Tamms, Illinois, died at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at Chateau Girardeau.

He was born June 12, 1929, in Tamms, the son of Roy and Effie Holshouser Miller. He married Mary Siress Jones on April 29, 1972.

Curtis was a graduate of Olive Branch (Illinois) High School and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a master's degree in vocational education. He was the director of the Five County Regional Vocational System at Tamms for a number of years. He was a member of the Sandusky-Tamms-Elco Fire Protection District until moving out of the district. He was a cabinetmaker, building-trade instructor and farmer. He was a Mason for 50-plus years in Caledonia Lodge No. 47.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Miller of Cape Girardeau; children, Brenda (Kenton) Martin of Cape Girardeau, Steve (Sandra) Miller of Carterville, Illinois, and Rhonda (Gary) Jones Fults of St. Charles, Missouri; grandchildren, Becky (Robbie) Lannom of Anna, Illinois, Steve (Armanda) Miller of Carterville and Brandon (Kinsey) Martin of Jackson; great-grandchildren, Cole and Carter Lannom, Braedon and Graeson Miller and Rilyn, Annabelle and Bailyn Martin; two sisters, Lois Farris of Cape Girardeau and Frances Reid of Jackson; and one brother, Roy Eugene Miller of Tamms.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clifford Miller; and three sisters, Elsie Suddeth, Lorene McAlister and Grace Duff.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, with Masonic services at noon.

Funeral services will follow at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jack Richardson officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
