Curt Hoehne

Curt Oscar "Pat" Hoehne, 84, of Shawneetown passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Aug. 28, 1919, at Altenburg, Mo., son of Joseph and Johanna Ahner Hoehne. He and Virginia Abernathy were married in 1946. She passed away in 1976. He and Marjorie Fluegge Wachter were married June 20, 1981, at Shawneetown.

Mr. Hoehne entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942. Serving in World War II, he was a platoon sergeant and served in Okinawa. He was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in action and also the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

He farmed and also established the first school bus route for Perry County. He later was a truck driver 20 years for East Perry Lumber Co., retiring in 1984.

Mr. Hoehne was a member of American Legion in Perryville, Mo., and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown, serving as an elder, trustee, on church council, and on various other committees. He was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wittenberg, Mo.

Loving survivors include his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie and Rick Gimpel of Simpsonville, S.C., Rebecca and Norman Anderson of Carnation, Wash.; four grandchildren, Gregory and Grant Gimpel, Ryan Cornehlson, Rachel Anderson; a sister, Frieda Newberry of St. Louis; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George, Leonard and Leo Hoehne; and three sisters, Emilie Moeslein, Cordia Kieback and Martha Scholl.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and after 1 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown. An American Legion service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church, with the Rev. Robert Mann officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military graveside rites by the American Legion Post in Perryville.
