Corinne Arbeiter

Corinne A. Arbeiter, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born June 15, 1919, in Gorham, Ill., to Edward and Hulda Heitman Heins. She and Harold Arbeiter were married Dec. 6, 1941.

Corrine was an active member in all churches of which she was a member in St. Louis, Jefferson City, Mo., and Appleton, Wis. She attended church regularly, was a third-grade Sunday school teacher, attended Bible study group, was a member of the Ladies Guild, Appleton Woman's Club, Appleton Medical Center Volunteers and Lions Auxiliaries. She most recently, along with her husband Harold, was an active member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

For recreation she played bridge. She started a neighborhood bridge club of housewives that is still going strong 30-plus years later. She also enjoyed golf, was on several teams, and was ready to "sub" when any team had a vacancy.

Corinne's need to keep busy was illustrated when the first niece in the family, a redhead at that, was planning to get married. Her niece wondered if Corinne could help select the material, colors or dresses, etc. Corinne volunteered to make all six of the wedding ensembles. Corinne's niece was proud of her workmanship.

Corinne enjoyed business traveling, visiting families and friends, and she especially enjoyed those trips to Florida during the Wisconsin winter seasons.

Returning to Missouri in 1999 gave that "back home" sense of comfort that she experienced when she first lived in the Show Me State nearly 50 years ago.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Arbeiter; a brother, Willard Heins; two sisters, Lucille Fuist and Eileen Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time Friday at Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob, Ill.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Paul Short officiating. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
