Comelous Cox

Comelous G. "C.G." Cox, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

C.G. was born Nov. 2, 1924, near Advance, Mo., in Cape Girardeau County, son of Comelous and Althea Winfred Zimmerman Cox. He and Mildred Mae Eakins were married Nov. 19, 1943. She survives.

C.G. had been a farmer most of his life in Cape Girardeau County northeast of Advance. This was the life that he enjoyed, and he and Mildred raised their four children on the farm with hard work and a simple lifestyle.

He and Mildred were caregivers for many people during their lifetime, such as his grandmother (during the first year of their marriage) and continued through to each of their parents and a host of other friends, family members and neighbors.

In the fall of 1993, he, his wife and daughter moved near Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters; Janet (Wayne) Womack of St. Charles, Mo., Barbara L. Cox of the home, Kay (Matthew) Palmer of Augusta, Maine; a son, Gerald (Cheryl) Cox of Cape Gir-ardeau; a grandson, Morris Womack Jr.; a great-grandson, Zachary Womack; a sister, Virginia Smith of Cape Girardeau; and a large host of friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Lee Cox; and five sisters, Mary Croswhite, Irene Miller, Ilene Hitt, Ruby Johnson and Lillian Smith.

He was currently a member of the Cape Girardeau South Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and during his lifetime had served as an elder/overseer more than 50 years.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1250 County Road 318, (off Highway 25) south of Jackson. Thomas J. Kelsey, an elder from the Cape Girardeau South Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, will officiate.

Private burial will be in Green Cox Cemetery near Advance.

Morgan Funeral Home in Advance is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jehovah's Witnesses-Worldwide Work or to the Alzheimer's Association or American Heart Association.
