JACKSON -- Retired Col. Thomas McCombs Heyde, 54, of Bluewater Bay, Fla., died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 1995, at his home.
He was born Aug. 12, 1941, in Jackson, son of W.A. and Bernice Fitzpatrick Heyde Jr. He and Imogene W. Case were married Aug. 29, 1964, in Enid, Okla.
Heyde was a graduate of Jackson High School. He received a bachelor of science degree in economics from DePauw University and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.
He served 27 years in the Air Force. He was pilot of F100, F111 and EF111, and during Vietnam he was an instructor pilot, test pilot, director of operations and military adviser. He also served in England and the Panama Canal Zone.
Heyde received the Legion of Merit, Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with 14 oak leaf clusters, and Air Force Commendation Medal. He was presented the Gallantry Cross by the Republic of Vietnam. Heyde retired at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., in December 1989.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Timothy Heyde of Bluewater Bay; a daughter, Lisa Vogel of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, William Heyde III of St. Louis, Philip Heyde of California, and a sister, Adelaide Parsons of Cape Girardeau.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson. The Rev. Scott Lohse will officiate.
Graveside service with military honors was held Sept. 1 at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla., with Chaplain Frank Dole officiating.
