Hamilton, 77, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at his home.

He was born Jan. 16, 1924, at Scott City, Mo., son of George and Minnie Spencer Hamilton. He and Loretta Scheeter were married Oct. 19, 1946, in St. Louis.

Hamilton was a clerk with St. Louis Southwestern Railroad 45 years.

He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 17, 1943, to Feb. 4, 1946, and was an AAA machine gun crewman during World War II. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, America Theater Campaign Ribbon, Victory Ribbon and two overseas bars, two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Diane Prosser of Atlanta, Ga., Cathy Deffendall of St. Louis; three brothers, Raymond Hamilton of Cheyenne, Wyo., Homer Hamilton of Jackson, Mo., Don Hamilton of Renault, Ill.; a grandchild; two stepgrandchildren; and five great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
