A memorial mass for Clyde F. LeGrand of St. Louis was held Saturday at All Saints Catholic Church in St. Louis.
LeGrand, 69, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 1995, at his home, following a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 27, 1925, in Cape Girardeau, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nick LeGrand.
LeGrand was a 1942 graduate of Notre Dame High School, and 1950 graduate of St. Louis University.
LeGrand had passed three of four sections of the required examination for a Certified Public Accountant certificate when he lost most of his eyesight due to a brain tumor. He passed an oral test in 1960 to complete the exam. An official of the American Institute of CPAs said it was believed LeGrand was the first blind person to pass the exam.
He worked for several firms in St. Louis, and had owned his own company the past 15 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Katy; three sons, Larry LeGrand of Town and Country, Terry LeGrand of South County, Nick LeGrand of Chattanooga, Tenn., and eight grandchildren.
