Clyde Cook

Clyde Joseph Cook, 87, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 3, 1923, to Otto J. and Mary B. Schaefer Cook. He and Marilyn Bryl Jones were married Oct. 26, 1951. Together they had seven children.

Clyde was much loved and will be greatly missed by his five children, Teresa (Jack) Skinner of Port Charlotte, Fla., Yvonne (Conrad) Burlbaugh of Scott City, Becky (Ben) Barton of Bonne Terre, Mo., Denise (Larry) Gibbs of Scott City, Michael (Julie) Cook of Oconomowoc, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two children, Renee and Mark Cook; two brothers, Robert and William Cook; and a sister, Margaret Davie.

Clyde was employed by Southeast Missouri State University, retiring in 1988. But he never really retired until almost age 80. He continued to paint, enjoy fishing and studying genealogy.

He was of the Catholic faith and in the last years attended St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, Mo., where he served many years as an usher/greeter. Clyde was very active in Knights of Columbus at Scott City. Upon becoming a Fourth Degree knight he served as a secretary and faithful navigator. He was a member of VFW Post 3838.

Clyde was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. The rosary will be at 7, followed by Knights of Columbus service.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Church, with the Rev. Normand Varone as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, with full military honors.
