Clinton Dale Hartley, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born May 24, 1924, in Venice, Ill., son of Clinton N. and Cecelia Butler Hartley. He and LaVerne Mayfield were married July 5, 1980, in Cape Girardeau.

Hartley served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 19, 1943, to Jan. 1, 1968. He was awarded the Army of Occupation of Germany Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

After retiring from the military, he received two degrees in accounting from Southeast Missouri State University. He was then an assistant treasurer 10 years with Sam Tanksley Trucking Co.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, lifetime member of VFW Post 3838 and Eagles Aerie.

Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, John and Ron Mayfield of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Constance Harris of Cape Girardeau; and four stepgrandchildren.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Scott Moon officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.
