Clifton C. Poole, 84, of Jackson died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Feb. 23, 1919, at La Forge, Mo., son of William C. and Josephine Gardner Poole. He and Leola Evans were married Oct. 7, 1939, at Charleston, Mo.

Mr. Poole was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1947 and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal. He was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include his wife; a son, William C. Poole of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Joan Hodges of Scott City, Linda DeFord of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two brothers, John Albert "Jack" Poole of St. Louis, Paul Poole of Park Hills, Mo.; a sister, Frankie Washburn of Caruthersville, Mo.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandchild.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with George Foster and Derieck Hodges officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park, with military graveside rites by Missouri Honor Guard and VFW Post 3838.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association or Missouri Veterans Home.
