SIKESTON -- Clifford N. LaPlant, 75, of Sikeston, died Sunday, March 28, 1993, at Sikeston Convalescent Center.

He was born Juy 18, 1917, in New Madrid County, son of George W. and Clara Tanner LaPlant. He and Doris Cutliph were married Nov. 23, 1936, at Dexter.

LaPlant was a construction superintendent and contractor with U.S. Corps of Engineers, working in the Bootheel and other states.

He moved to Sikeston in 1949. He owned and operated fertilizer businesses at Matthews and McMullin, was a landowner and registered polled hereford breeder. He was also a land and property appraiser for state of Missouri.

In 1979 he was elected to the House of Representatives from the 159th District. In 1963 he went on the Missouri Department of Agriculture tour to Russia.

LaPlant was a member of St. James Drainage District, Missouri Cattleman's Association, 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner, member of the SEMO Shrine Mounted Patrol, and First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Phyllis Aduddell and Mary Beth Lee of Sikeston; two brothers, Shirley LaPlant of New Madrid, Bernell LaPlant of East Prairie; two sisters, June Brown of East Prairie, Alleen Hudson of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, and a great-grandson.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Tom Geers will officiate, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
