Cletus J. Todt, 93, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 2015, at his home.
He was born May 1, 1922, in Raymond, Illinois, and was the son of John T. Todt and Bertha F. Hoehn Todt. He married Lorena E. Dohogne on Oct. 22, 1949, in Oran, Missouri. She died June 11, 1983. He then married Hannah Farmer Geringer on Dec. 27, 1985, in Cape Girardeau. She survives.
Cletus served in the Navy during World War II as a Navy diver on the Europe front. After the war, he farmed in Scott County, Missouri. In 1946, Cletus and his brother Herman started Todt Sheet Metal. He became president in 1975 and retired in 1985.
Cletus was a longtime member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, where he was a member of the St. Vincent Men's Association. He also was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1111, attaining Fourth Degree. He was a member of the Exchange Club, where he won the Herman C. Todt award for Exchangite of the year in 1975. He also was a member of VFW Post 3838 and American Legion Post 63.
He is survived by his children, James W. (Roxanne) Todt, Brenda Sue (Don) Hicks, Stephen J. (Judy) Todt and Daniel R. (Dianna) Todt. Also surviving are Geri Geringer, Richard (Debbie) Geringer and Scott (Lena) Geringer; grandchildren, Tracy, Kimberly, Ryan, Ashley, Lauren, Megan, Valerie, Kyle, Chad, Nicole, Jason, Chris, Bradley, Josh and Melissa; Cletus' great-grandchildren are Emily, Ethan, Kinsey, Eli, Sydne, Allyson, Anna, Kate, Nathan, Miles, John, Andrew, Matthew, Phillip, Dani Rae, Mia, Siena, Marina, Ella, Hannah Claire, Adeline, Courtney and Scott; brothers Robert and Sylvester Todt; and sister, Theresa Schlitt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Harold, Herman and Carl Todt; sisters, Regina Anderson and Geraldine Lewis; and stepsons Gary Geringer and Michael Geringer.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Parish prayers and Knights of Columbus rosary will begin at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. David Hulshof officiating. Burial with full military rites will be at St. Mary Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to Christian Services at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.
