BURFORDVILLE, Mo. -- Clent W. Proffer, 83, of Burfordville died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born April 3, 1918, at Crump, Mo., son of Lyman E. and Etta C. Jones Proffer. He and Alfreda J. Flowers were married June 21, 1946, at Cape Girardeau.
Proffer served in the Army during World War II and received European Campaign, American Campaign and African Campaign medals, a Purple Heart with on oak leaf cluster, a Bronze Star, the French Croix De Guerre with palm, expert pistol and carbine medals and a World War II Campaign medal. He worked as a foreman with the Cape Girardeau Street Department. He retired in 1983. Proffer was a member of the Teamsters Union.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Keith Proffer of Burfordville; three daughters, Patty Gray of Cape Girardeau, Vickie Proffer of Burfordville, and Sandra Wells of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; a sister, Ellen Jean Adams of Cape Girardeau; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister and a grandson.
Friends may call at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home from 2-6 p.m. today.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. James Eddy will officiate, with burial in Cape County Memorial Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by VFW Post No. 3836 and the Missouri Honor Guard at graveside.
