SIKESTON -- Clay Vernon Wood, 72, of Sikeston died Saturday, Sept. 24, 1994, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born April 12, 1922 at East Prairie, son of Jesse and Ida Daugherty Wood. SIKESTON -- Clay Vernon Wood, 72, of Sikeston died Saturday, Sept. 24, 1994, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 12, 1922 at East Prairie, son of Jesse and Ida Daugherty Wood.

A resident of the area most of his life, he was a veteran of the Army during World War II, a member of the Henry Meldrum American Legion post in Sikeston, and the Sikeston VFW post.

He was a self-employed floor refinisher and floor recoverer.

On Aug. 22, 1948, he married Mary Bretz at Pocahontas, Ark. She survives.

He is also survived by one son, Steven Wood, Sikeston; and one brother, Edwin Wood, Sikeston

One sister and two brothers preceded him in death.

Friends may call today from 5-8 p.m. at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Dale McFarland, pastor of North Acres General Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
