Claude E. Hurt, 79, of Jackson died Thursday, May 19, 2016, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 28, 1936, in Bunceton, Missouri, to Paul and Bethel Allie Hurt. He and Linda Martin were married Saturday, June 7, 1958, at Bridgeton, Missouri. She survives.

Claude received an associate degree in commercial arts from Hannibal-LaGrange University in Hannibal, Missouri. He was a salesman for and retired from the Kansas City, Missouri-based firm of Nasdar, and worked out of St. Louis.

He was chairman with Boy Scout Troop 2 in Cape Girardeau.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Hurt of Jackson; two sons, Mark (Jan) Hurt of Cape Girardeau and Tracy (Deanna) Hurt of Creston, Iowa; a daughter, Michelle (Joseph) Messina of New Lenox, Illinois; a sister, Martha Dean (James) Case of Jefferson City, Missouri; six grandchildren, Joseph Messina, Hank (Heather) Hurt, Nicole Messina, Leah Hurt, Jesse Hurt and Austin Hurt; and a great-grandchild, Shane Hurt.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Weston Wildauer officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel Endowment Fund.
