Clarence Theodore Vandeven, formerly of Glennon, Mo., died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Aug. 21, 1912, at Glennon, Mo., son of William and Anna Hinkebein Vandeven.
He and Barbara Landewee were married Feb. 26, 1938, at St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold, Mo. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, William J. and James H. Vandeven, both of Cape Girardeau, and Richard Vandeven of Chaffee, Mo.; two daughters, Verneda LeGrand of Cape Girardeau and Elaine Proctor of Benton, Mo.; two sisters, Barbara Vandeven Landewee of New Hamburg, and Martha Vandeven De Brock of Glennon; a sister-in-law, Margaret Terbrock Vandeven of Glennon; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Lawrence; and a sister, Margaret Vandeven Peters. A brother, sister and grandchild died in infancy.
Clarence and Barbara resided in Glennon for 55 years before retiring to Chaffee eight years ago. They were members of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Glennon and later St. Ambrose in Chaffee. He had worked as a farmer and carpenter. Vandeven was an active fourth degree member of Leopold Knights of Columbus Council 5898 and the Co-op of Lutesville, Mo. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening as well as visiting with family and friends.
Friends may call at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill from 4 p.m. today.
Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Church. The Revs. Ralph Duffner and Frederick Lutz will officiate, with burial in the church cemetery.
