Clarence Mayfield

Clarence Allen "Willie" Mayfield, 79, of Jackson and formerly of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home.

He was born Oct. 25, 1933, in Mayfield, Mo., son of Dale and Alpha Allen Mayfield. He and Margaret Ann Clippard were married April 2, 1977. She preceded him in death Oct. 10, 2011.

Clarence was inducted into the United States Navy on Dec. 8. 1955, and was honorably discharged Dec. 7, 1961. He also worked more than 30 years for the Cape Girardeau School District, retiring in 1996.

Clarence enjoyed photography and had a passion for true country music, having played in the country music bands of Lou Hobbs and Narvel Felts.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff Mayfield and Greg (Mary Ann) Mayfield of Jackson; two daughters, Carla (Kurt) Lafaire of Marble Hill, Mo., and Karen (Ken) Condict of Bloomfield, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Cathy (Jack) Connell of Cape Girardeau and Barbara (Bill) Kempen of St. Roberts, Mo.; a stepson, Ray (Lola) Bowen of Blytheville, Ark.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and six great-stepgrandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Craig Mayfield.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kevin Rhodes officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with full military honors to be conducted.
