Clarence Anthony Layton, 91, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.
He was born June 15, 1920, in Bonne Terre, Mo., to William J. and Pearl Elizabeth Muellersman Layton.
He and Lola O'Sullivan Layton were married April 23, 1951, at St. Joseph Church in Farmington, Mo.
Clarence served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was in the 48th Armed Infantry Battalion. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart.
He moved to Cape Girardeau in 1960 and worked for Borden Inc. from 1960 to 1985, at which time he retired.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He also belonged to American Legion Post 416 and VFW Post 5896, both in Farmington.
Survivors include his wife, Lola Layton of Cape Girardeau; two nephews, Tom and Larry O'Sullivan of St. Louis; and one niece, Gayle Varn of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Hulshof officiating.
Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
