DONGOLA, Ill. — Clarence Lasley Jr., 77, of Mounds, Ill., died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at his daughter's home in Dongola.
He was born March 20, 1931, in Vienna, Ill., son of William C. Lasley Sr. and Ruby Wilson Lasley. He married Sarah Theressa McLean, who preceded him in death.
Lasley was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mounds and was employed as an Armory Control Officer at Menard Correctional Center in Chester, Ill., until his retirement. He was a member of Cairo, Ill., VFW Post 2649 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by four children, Gary Lasley of Mounds, Cindy Clancy of Villa Ridge, Ill., David Lasley of Cypress, Ill., Alicia Hinkle of Dongola; two sisters, Pamela Woolard of Thompsonville, Ill., Betty Lasley of Florida; three brothers, Billy Joe Lasley of Daleville, Ind., Donald Lasley of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., Bob Lasley of West Virginia; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Lasley was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Barkett Funeral Home in Mounds.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Larry Buckles officiating. Interment will be at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge with military honors by the Pulaski County memorial VFW Post 8891 of Mounds, Cairo VFW Post 2649, the Louis Phares American Legion Post 178 of Villa Ridge and the U.S. Army.
