Clarence H. Carnell, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born April 30, 1927, in Parkburg, Tenn., to Albert Dewitt and Lelar Mae Coupples Carnell. He and Evelyn Bowers were married Nov. 17, 1957, in Hernando, Miss.
Carnell owned and operated Carnell's Garage and Wrecker Service in Dutchtown since 1964. He built many of the wreckers first used in the business. He owned a farm in Whitewater. Carnell attended First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.
He was a Little League and girls softball coach. He was the coordinator for flood relief in the Dutchtown area and received the Governor's Award for community service in 1993 from Gov. Mel Carnahan. He attended First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Carnell of Cape Girardeau; three sons, Bill Carnell of Jackson, Mark Carnell of Dutchtown, Craig Carnell of Gordonville; a daughter, Christey Heath of Jackson; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Tonya Goodin (Sept. 19, 2001); four brothers; a sister; and a half sister.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Grant Gillard officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
