WOOD RIVER, Ill. -- Clarence Hugh "Shorty" Buster, 89, of Wood River, Ill. and formerly of East Cape Girardeau, Ill., died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, at Eldercare of Alton.
He was born July 18, 1916, in Thebes, Ill., son of Richard David and Effie Mary Buster. He and Thelma Lorene Warren were married Dec. 30, 1938, at Jackson.
Buster was a carpenter for Clark Oil in Hartford, Ill., for 27 years. He graduated from Thebes High School.
Survivors included his wife; three daughters, Shirley Wilson of Alton, Ill., Crystal Corey of Ralph, Ala., and Beverly Pratter of Russellville, Ala.; a sister, Jewel Jones of Dahlgren, Ill.; a brother and sister-in-law, James Buster and Vera Buster of East Cape Girardeau; seven grandchildren, Sarah, David, Mary, Rebecca, Ruth, Jason and Tesha; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William Buster; and three sisters, Mary Hopkins; Edna Twente and Lillian "Lilly" Riggs.
Friends may call at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River, Ill., from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday. Visitation will continue at Alexander Free Will Baptist Church in Thebes, beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Free Will Baptist Church in Thebes. The Rev. Levy Corey and the Rev. Ernest Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery.
