CHARLESTON -- Clarence Abernathy, 89, of Charleston died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Miner Nursing Center in Miner.
He was born Aug. 21, 1910, at Lowndes, son of Henry and Mary Marget Abernathy. He and Vallie "Aunt Sissie" McCormick were married Nov. 18, 1946. She died June 20, 1994.
A resident of Charleston most of his life, Abernathy retired as water superintendent with the city of Charleston. He was a member of Elm Street Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 5-8 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston.
