Clara Smithey

THEBES, Ill. -- Clara J. Smithey, 89, of Thebes passed away Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.

Mrs. Smithey was born Aug. 9, 1921, at Thebes, daughter of Albert and Mary Perry Dover. She and Virgil Smithey were married March 2, 1937, in Mounds, Ill.

She was a loving wife and mother. She was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include four sons, Royal Smithey of Sutherlin, Ore., Charles Smithey of Olive Branch, Ill., Dale Smithey of Beloit, Ill., Paul Smithey of Wynona, Okla.; five daughters, Marilyn Mason of Harvard, Ill., Janice Tatum of Tamms, Ill., Doris Clark of Olive Branch, Cathy Johnson of Cape Girardeau, Alberta Knorr of Shirland, Ill.; a sister, Mabel Forehand of McClure, Ill.; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter and a son.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gene Hart officiating. Interment will be in Sims Cemetery near Elco, Ill.
