CHARLESTON -- Clara Newnam, 95, of Charleston, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1992, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. She was born Jan. 20, 1897, near Charleston, daughter of John Perry and Nannie Adams Drinkwater. She and William E. Newnam were married in 1937. He died in 1949...

CHARLESTON -- Clara Newnam, 95, of Charleston, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1992, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

She was born Jan. 20, 1897, near Charleston, daughter of John Perry and Nannie Adams Drinkwater. She and William E. Newnam were married in 1937. He died in 1949.

Newnam was a graduate of Charleston High School, and Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis. She also studied at George Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn. She had been a public health nurse in Mississippi, St. Francois and New Madrid counties.

Survivors include cousins.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at McMikle Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Richard Combs will officiate, with burial in IOOF Cemetery.
