Funeral service for Chester Eugene Ivester of Cape Girardeau was held Sunday at Rainey Chapel in Bernie. The Rev. Joe Masters officiated, with burial in Armstead Dowdy Cemetery at Dexter.

Ivester, 79, died Friday, June 13, 1997, at Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born Dec. 23, 1917, in Gideon, son of Zelmar and Julia Temples Ivester. He and Alice Gotham were married in 1962. She died April 7, 1992.

Ivester had been a construction worker of bridges and tunnels in the Chicago area. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his mother of Clewiston, Fla.; two brothers, Harry Ivester of Cape Girardeau, Keith Ivester of Scott City; and a sister, Anita Rainey of Clewiston.

He was prececed in death by his father and four brothers.
