Chester F. Butler, 93, of Jackson, passed away Friday, July 29, 2022, at the Monticello House in Jackson.

He was born Feb. 1, 1929, in Bessville, Missouri, to Bill and Lillian Hamlyn Butler. He and Betty Harris were married May 24, 1952, in Parma, Missouri.

Chester served honorably in the U.S. Army from Sept. 5, 1946 to Aug. 12, 1949.

Chester and Betty lived 45 years in St. Louis. Chester was employed many years at Jakes-Evans Manufacturing and then worked several years as a custodian at Jennings Senior High School. He and Betty retired to Jackson in 1987.

In earlier years, Chester was a Boy Scout leader. He especially enjoyed working puzzles, reading, deer hunting, bowling at Jackson Lanes and watching Cardinals baseball.

Chester and Betty attended Shawnee Hills Baptist Church in Jackson.

Loving survivors include his wife of 70 years, Betty Butler of Jackson; two children, Donna (Jim) Schrautemeier of O'Fallon, Missouri and Ricky Butler of Houston, Texas; a grandson, Tim (Carmen) Schrautemeier of Corvallis, Oregon; and two brothers, Billy Butler of DeRidder, Louisiana, and W. L. (Connie) Butler of Gilman City, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by six adult siblings, his parents, and some infant siblings.

Visitation is from 10:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Shawnee Hill Baptist Church in Jackson.

The Rev. Don Estes will conduct the funeral at noon Wednesday at the church. A graveside service and military honors will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Dexter City Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Shawnee Hills Baptist Church.

McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center was entrusted with Chester's arrangements.
