Charlotte Mae Proffer, 71, of Jackson died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at her home.

She was born April 23, 1933, at Zalma, Mo., daughter of Frank and Leafy Cato Rowe. She and Wilburn Proffer were married Aug. 19, 1950.

Charlotte worked several years at Monsanto Co. in St. Louis. Prior to that she worked at McDonnell-Douglas Corp. in St. Louis. She was a charter member of West Side General Baptist Church in Breckenridge Hills, Mo., and was a member from 1956 to 1994. After moving to Jackson in 1996 she became a member of First General Baptist Church.

Loving survivors include her husband, Wilburn Proffer of Jackson; a daughter, Linda (Tom) Simpson of St. Charles, Mo.; two sons, Roger (Debbie) Proffer of Ballwin, Mo., David Proffer of San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Bill (Bonnie) Rowe of Maryland Heights, Mo.; three sisters, Frankie Barks of St. Peters, Mo., Bonnie (Don) Corbin of St. Louis County, Sandra (Dwane) Davis of St. John, Mo.; three grandchildren, Adrienne Lord of St. Louis, Ryan (Tina) Lord of St. Louis, Adam Proffer of Ballwin; and a great-granddaughter, Isabelle Lord of St. Louis.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Wanda Stephens.

Friends may call at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance, Mo., from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Luther Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Southeast Hospice or to First General Baptist Church in Jackson.
