Sikeston, Mo. -- Charlie "Chazz" Welter, 62, of Sikeston died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at his home.
He was born Dec. 25, 1951, in Cape Girardeau, son of the late Victor and Lillie LeDure Welter.
Charlie had been a liquor salesman with Moon Distributing many years, a laborer with Local 1104 Labor Union of North America, and had been a manager at Piggly Wiggly in Miner, Mo. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church, Sikeston Eagles Club, Sikeston Elks Lodge, and Henry Meldrum American Legion Post 114.
Survivors include three sons, Nicholas Welter of Sikeston, Trent VanDeVan and Victor VanDeVan of Leopold, Mo.; a daughter, Kerissa Kirk of Columbia, Mo.; five brothers, Gary Welter of Cape Girardeau, Jerome Welter of Fredericktown, Mo., Murphy Welter, Dudley Welter and Michael Welter, all of Benton, Mo.; three sisters, Patsy Peters of Leopold, Linda Mungle of Benton, Vickie Wilson of Sikeston; and two grandchildren, Ryan Kirk and Megan Kirk of Columbia. He also leaves behind two special children he helped raise, Tyler Sommers and Gerald Sommers of Sikeston; and many, many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Larry Welter and DeWayne Welter; and a sister, Geri Lawson.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, where funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Denis Cemetery at Benton.
Pallbearers will be Gary Prindle, Ron Davis, Jack Rogers, Randy Welter, John Welter, Tim Peters, Chris Peters and Derrick Welter.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Mize, Paul Mize, Rick Mize, Tom Mize, Richard Reeves, Jeremy Nall and Jacob Wilson.
