ANNISTON -- Funeral service for Charlie Jones of Anniston will be held at 11 a.m. today at Shelby Funeral Chapel in East Prairie. The Rev. Robert Burke will officiate, with burial in IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.
Jones, 71 years old, died Monday, April 1, 1991, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 25, 1919, at Poe, son of Otos and Mary Cozzart Jones. He and the former Laverne Tatum were married Sept. 28, 1948, in Osceola, Ark.
Jones formerly operated the Mississippi County License Bureau in Charleston, and was an automobile dealer. He was a member of Charleston VFW Post 4294, Cairo Elks 651, and Sikeston Eagles 3319. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jimmie Jones of Bossier City, La.; two daughters, Carolyn Bowers of Memphis, Tenn., Debbie Barker of East Prairie; a brother, Robert Jones of Charleston, and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, a daughter, and three brothers.
