Charles L. Winters, 69, of Scott City, formerly of Du Quoin, Ill., passed away Friday, March 8, 2013, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born Jan. 13, 1944, in Vergennes, Ill., son of Henry and Lula Marie Nevill Winters. Charles was a meat cutter at Kroger's. He was of the Baptist belief. Charles L. Winters, 69, of Scott City, formerly of Du Quoin, Ill., passed away Friday, March 8, 2013, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 13, 1944, in Vergennes, Ill., son of Henry and Lula Marie Nevill Winters.

Charles was a meat cutter at Kroger's. He was of the Baptist belief. Charles was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and had served in the Panama Canal.

Survivors include a son, Christopher Winters of Carbondale, Ill.; a daughter, Crystal Winters of Du Quoin; two grandchildren, Cole and Carlie Daffron of Du Quoin; three brothers, Robert Winters and wife Rosalie, Jack Winters and wife Phyllis and James Winters and wife Jean, all of Murphysboro, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Betty Winters and Carolin Winters.

A military graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hallidayboro Cemetery in Hallidayboro, Ill., with the Du Quoin VFW, Du Quoin American Legion and United States Navy, officiating.

Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin is in charge of arrangements.

Friends may make memorials to the VFW and will be accepted at the funeral home.
