CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Charles W. Vickery Jr., 87, of Chaffee died Thursday, July 19, 2018, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born Oct. 16, 1930, in Chaffee to the late Charles William and Hattie Pearl Parmeley Vickery Sr. He and Virginia Lee Roney were married July 2, 1949, and she preceded him in death Jan. 15, 1994. CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Charles W. Vickery Jr., 87, of Chaffee died Thursday, July 19, 2018, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 16, 1930, in Chaffee to the late Charles William and Hattie Pearl Parmeley Vickery Sr. He and Virginia Lee Roney were married July 2, 1949, and she preceded him in death Jan. 15, 1994. Charles later met and married Dorothy Scheeter Halbert on March 15, 1995, and she survives of the home.

Charles was a retired brakeman/conductor for the Frisco Railroad--Burlington Northern in Chaffee for more than 42 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Chaffee, as well as the Chaffee Elks Lodge No. 1810 and the Chaffee Masonic Lodge No. 615.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Vickery of Chaffee; two sons, Charles L. (Kathy) Vickery of Sikeston, Missouri, and James (Suzie) Vickery of Cape Girardeau; three stepsons, Hal (Linda) Halbert of Wappapello, Missouri, Scott Halbert of Chaffee and Mitch (Jill) Halbert of Cape Girardeau; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Ed Vickery; a sister, Charlene Talley, and a stepdaughter, Jan Halbert.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Josh Boley officiating. Burial will be at Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee.
