Sikeston, Mo. -- Charles R. Stamp Sr., age 85, died Aug. 12, 2010, at the family home in Sikeston. Charlie was a lifetime resident of Missouri and a 50-year resident of Sikeston.
Born in his parents' home in Des Arc, Mo., on April 29, 1925, Charlie was the son of the late Howard Eugene Stamp and Iola Mae Howard Stamp, lifelong Des Arc residents. Charlie was always proud to have graduated second (of six) in the Des Arc High School class of 1943.
On July 29, 1948, he married the former Wilma Jean Davis of Piedmont, Mo., who preceded him in death Dec. 24, 1985. Other survivors include a daughter, Patti Anne Stamp Hinkle of Des Arc, and two sons, Charles R. Stamp Jr. of Atlanta and Timothy James Stamp of Boston. Charlie is also survived by two grandsons, Jason Andrew Stamp of St. Louis and Jonathan Hinkle of Perryville, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Aidan Lee Stamp, Kylie Marie Stamp and Natalie Marie Hinkle; two daughters-in-law, Cynthia Ann Stamp of Atlanta and Kelly Diane Stamp of Boston; and a son-in law, Bill Hinkle of Des Arc. Two brothers and one sister preceded him death. Also surviving are sisters Jeanette "Bertie" Parker and Rebecca "Becky" Janis, both of Des Arc.
Following graduation from Des Arc High School, Charlie served in the U.S. Army, enlisting in 1944. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite, where his membership spanned 56 years.
Charlie managed Fabick Brothers Equipment Co. of Sikeston, the Southeast Missouri dealership for Caterpillar, for twenty-five years before retiring in 1986. Prior thereto, he served as a sales representative for Fabick in Cape Girardeau.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m., Monday at Des Arc Mountain View Cemetery, with the Rev. Claude Fields of Marshall Baptist Temple of Marshall, Mo., officiating. Pallbearers include two grandchildren and four nephews, Jonathan Hinkle, Jason Andrew Stamp, Howard Janis, Mark Stamp, Burl Stamp Jr. and Ralph Schrader.
