Charles F. Shultz, 86, of Jackson passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Nov. 12, 1928, in Cape Girardeau, son of Charles F. and Ruth Shultz. He and Fern Peetz were married Jan. 6, 1957, at St. James UCC in Tilsit.
Charles graduated from Patton High School.
He served with the U.S. Army in the 19th Infantry Regiment of the 24th Infantry Division from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War. He also served 18 years in the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring as a master sergeant.
Charles was a life member of VFW Post 10495 of Jackson and American Legion Post 158 of Jackson. He served as a board member of SEMO District Fair many years and was a volunteer at Missouri Veterans Home.
He retired in 1984 from McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Co. as an inspector. He was a longtime member of Zion United Methodist Church near Gordonville.
Loving survivors include his wife of 58 years, Fern; three sons, Randy (Kim) Shultz of Jackson, Rick (Jan) Shultz of Milan, Tennessee, and Roland Shultz of O'Fallon, Missouri; a daughter, Cheryl (Scott) Rhodes of Advance, Missouri; a sister, Ilanda Bollinger of Jackson; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Mary Henderson.
Friends may call from noon until time of service today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joel Kidwell officiating. Interment will be in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Gordonville, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Graveside military honors will be conducted.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to: Zion UMC or Zion UMC Cemetery, Southeast Hospice, VFW Post 10495 in Jackson, or Missouri Veterans Home.
