DEXTER -- Funeral for Charles Eugene Shipley of Dexter will be held at 11 a.m. today at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield. The Rev. Kathern Medlin will officiate, with burial in Baker Cemetery at Marble Hill.

Shipley, 66, died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at his home.

He was born Aug. 18, 1931, at Brownstown, Ill., son of Charles G. and Goldie Haslett Shipley. He and Betty Malone were married June 17, 1984.

Formerly of Okeechobee and Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Shipley had lived in Dexter since 1983. He was a base administrative officer 23 years with the Department of Defense at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.

Shipley was a former teacher/instructor at Cornerstone Christian Academy at Dexter. He was a long standing member of Apostolic House of Prayer in Bell City, and had served as teacher, deacon and treasurer.

He served as cubmaster and scoutmaster for the handicapped Boy Scouts of Gulfstream Council in Florida. He served in the U.S. Army, the U.S. Navy, and was a former member of Illinois National Guard. He received the United Nations and Korean Service medals.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Donald Shipley of Okeechobee, David Shipley of Wichita Falls, Texas; two daughters, Donna Farrell of Okeechobee, Brenda Linderman of Milton, Fla.; a stepson, Roger Martin of Dexter; three stepdaughters, Carolyn Burke of Buford, Ga., Bonnie Quick of Salem, Mary Hicks of Dexter; a sister, Betty Jordan of Patton; a stepbrother, Rick Shell of Marble Hill; a stepsister, Lorene Eaker of Church Hill, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, a stepson, and three brothers.
