Charles Orin Shepard, 63, of Jackson died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Jackson Manor. He was born Sept. 14, 1939, in Clayton, N.M., son of William C. and Clara M. Bates Shepard. Charles Orin Shepard, 63, of Jackson died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Jackson Manor.

He was born Sept. 14, 1939, in Clayton, N.M., son of William C. and Clara M. Bates Shepard. He and Mary Ross were married June 28, 1986, in Cape Girardeau.

Shepard was an aviation electronics technician and chief petty officer in the military. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962, and in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1964 to 1980, including the Vietnam War. He was also stationed in The Philippines, Hawaii, North Carolina, and San Francisco. He was a member of Mount Auburn Christian Church in Cape Girardeau, Jackson American Legion, and Chief Petty Officer Association.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Matthew McGill and Mike McGill of Jackson; a daughter, Lisa Shepard of Seattle, Wash.; his mother-in-law, Golda Ross of Fenton, Mo.; a brother and sister-in-law, Clif and Edie Shepard of Crescent City, Calif.; a sister, Patsy Hinton of Chaffee, Mo.; two brothers-in-law, Bill Ross of St. Louis, Dick Ross of Fenton; several nieces and nephews; and two great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Michael Shepard.

There is no visitation.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with full military rites by Missouri Honor Guard. The Rev. Steve Betts and the Rev. Jay White will officiate. Burial will be in Willamette Memorial National Cemetery in Albany, Ore.

Memorials may be made to Southeast Hospice.
