PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Funeral for Charles H. Sanders of Perryville was held Wednesday at Young and Sons Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerold McBride officiated. Burial was in Home Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 133.
Sanders, 83, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at his home.
He was born Oct. 26, 1917, in Perry County, Mo., son of Thomas and Mayme Cox Sanders. He and Lois Wheeler were married Dec. 25, 1941, in Carlinville, Ill.
Sanders taught high school agriculture at Perryville and Ste. Genevieve, Mo. He was manager of the Perry County Co-op, was first president of the Perry County Nursing Home board and first president of Public Water Supply District 2. He also served on the board of education for the Bois Brule school district.
He was a member and deacon of Lithium Baptist Church, member of American Legion Post 133, St. Mary Masons Lodge 226, Scottish Rite, was a Shriner and manager of the PCA.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Richard Sanders of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Charles H. Sanders Jr. of O'Fallon, Mo., and Russell Sanders of Jacksonville, N.C.; a brother, Frank Sanders of Greencastle, Ind.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
