SEDGEWICKVILLE -- Charles Edward Sams, 75, of Sedgewickville, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, at St. Louis University Hospital.
He was born June 8, 1920, in Greenville, Miss., son of Walter and Birdie Davidson Sams. He and Muredith Statler were married Oct. 7, 1967.
Sams was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 16 in Cape Girardeau. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Melonie Brink of Sedgewickville, Cheri Hartmann of Plainfield, Ind., Brenda Hill of Greenfield, Ind.; his mother of Cairo, Ill.; a brother, Ernest Sams of state of Florida; three sisters, Lula Grassie of Rogers, Ark., UnaBelle Berryhill and Ruby Sams of Cairo; five grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call at Liley Funeral Home in Patton after 1 p.m. Friday. Parish prayers will be at 7.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Msgr. Edward Eftink and the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating. Burial will be in Lixville Community Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 5900.
