CAIRO, Ill. -- Charles H. Roberts, 74, of Cairo died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at his home.
He was born June 23, 1923, in Fancy Farm, Ky., son of John W. and Florence Hobbs Roberts.
Roberts retired as a caseworker with Illinois Department of Human Services. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cairo Elks Lodge 651, Disabled American Veterans, and was a 4th Degree member of Cairo Knights of Columbus Council 1027.
He was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred; three daughters, Peggy Fairchild and Carla Shemwell of Cairo, Florence Goatley of Wickliffe, Ky.; two sisters, Elizabeth Adams of Cairo, Cecilia Marquardt of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter.
Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo after 4 p.m. today. The rosary will be recited at 7.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Church, with the Rev. Jerome Fortenberry officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Villa Ridge.
