Charles Pixley

ADVANCE, Mo. -- Charles J. Pixley, 85, of Advance died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born May 27, 1921, at Advance, son of Henry and Minnie Umfleet Pixley. He and Rosemary McFerron were united in marriage on April 17, 1949, at Advance, and she preceded him in death on March 25, 2000.

Pixley had been the manager of Union Station in St. Louis, Mo. He had also been the manager of the Bulk Mail Center in St. Louis. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and attended the Advance First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Winnis Pixley of Advance; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and David Means of Hopkinsville, Ky.; a sister, Grace Hinkle of O'Fallon, Mo.; two granddaughters, Julie Ann Means and Mary Katherine "Katie" Means, both of Hopkinsville, Ky.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Scott Means; six sisters, Sybil Pixley Robison, Louvina Pixley Croy, Ida Pixley Green, Martha Pixley Poe, Ada Pixley Croy Umfleet, Ida Umfleet Hinkle; five brothers, Albert Pixley, Earl Pixley, Lawrence Umfleet, Clarence "Pete" Umfleet, Ed Umfleet; and infant twin brothers.

Friends may call at Morgan Funeral Home from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Morgan Funeral Chapel at Advance, with the Rev. Eric Shrum officiating.

Interment will be in Morgan Memorial Park at Advance.
