PERRYVILLE - Charles O. Alkemeyer, 95, of Perryville, died Wednesday, May 22, 1991, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.

He was born Dec. 25, 1895, in Lixville, Mo., the son of Charles and Katie Schemel Alkemeyer.

On Oct. 9, 1921, he married Ella Ruessler. She died Dec. 17, 1989.

He had been involved in law enforcement for 58 years, including 34 years as Perryville city marshal, 4 years as a night marshal and 20 years as Perry County deputy sheriff.

He was a World War I army veteran, recipient of the Purple Heart, and a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville.

He is survived by one son, Bill Alkemeyer, and a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Alkemeyer, both of Perryville; two grandchildren, Jim Schott and Diana Layton; and three great-grandchildren.

Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville. A VFW wake service will be held at 7 p.m. and an American Legion wake service will be held at 7:30.

The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jeffrey Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
