SIKESTON -- Charles L. Payne Jr., 79, of Sikeston, died Tuesday, May 31, 1994, at Missouri Delta Medical Center. He was born Sept. 14, 1915, in Pittsburg, Kan., son of Charles Leeper and Maude Helen Graham Payne. He and Alice Healey were married Feb. 11, 1957...

SIKESTON -- Charles L. Payne Jr., 79, of Sikeston, died Tuesday, May 31, 1994, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 14, 1915, in Pittsburg, Kan., son of Charles Leeper and Maude Helen Graham Payne. He and Alice Healey were married Feb. 11, 1957.

Payne was manager of Memorial Park Cemetery here the past 22 years. He was a member of Henry Meldrum American Legion Post 114 in Sikeston. He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Charles Payne III of Sikeston; two daughters, Ellen Hensley and Martha Payne of Sikeston, and three grandchildren.

Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home after 5 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Charles E. Buck officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
