Long-time Cape Girardeau businessman Charles L. Huckstep, 65, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 1991 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 27, 1926 in Cape Girardeau to Albert and Marie Seibert Huckstep. He married Betty Winfrey on Nov. 9, 1947 in Poplar Bluff. She died in April 1972.

Among his survivors are his mother, of Cape Girardeau; sons Charles Lee II of Dallas, Texas and Keith Huckstep of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Roxanne Huckstep of Yorktown, Va.; brothers Willmon and Gene Huckstep, both of Cape Girardeau; and a grandson.

Huckstep was a Sinclair Oil agent for 27 years. He bought the Cape Girardeau bulk plant from Sinclair in 1972.

In 1962, he started Huckstep Oil Co. He owned and operated six service stations in Southeast Missouri at different times.

Huckstep also owned the Huckstep Marine Terminal on the Mississippi River since 1947.

He retired in December 1989. He was co-founder and present board member of Rental Land in Cape Girardeau, and a board member of Capital Bank and Capital Bancorporation of Cape Girardeau.

A World War II Army veteran, Huckstep was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Trinity Men's Club in Cape Girardeau and the Cape Girardeau Veterans of Foreign Wars post.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Dissen will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Mount Auburn Chapel of Ford & Sons Funeral Homes.
