ESSEX -- Charles Edward "Gov" Jones, 53, of rural Essex, formerly of Sikeston, died Sunday, July 7, 1996, at the Dexter Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 8, 1943, the son of David Jones of Sikeston and the late Lillian Young Jones.
Jones was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Sikeston and was of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Navy from Dec. 29, 1960, to Feb. 25, 1963, when he was honorably discharged.
Survivors include a daughter, Veronica Jones Williams of Deberry, Texas; three sons, Milton Washington of Kansas City, and Adam and Antwan Kent, both of Lansing, Mich.; three brothers, Franklin Jones of Chicago and Jerry and Willie Jones, both of Sikeston; and four grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the Williams-Farr and Purnell Funeral Home in Sikeston.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Sikeston, with the Rev. Flem E. Bronner Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the National Cemetery in Mound City, Ill.
