Funeral Mass for Charles Griffaw Jr. of Elsberry, Mo., was held Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elsberry. The Rev. Bill Beier officiated. Burial was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry was in charge of arrangements.
Griffaw, 76, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at Crossroads Hospital in Wentzville, Mo.
He was born Aug. 2, 1926, in Cape Girardeau, son of Charles and Jewel Martin Griffaw. He and Estel Germaine Schoreck were married Oct. 30, 1947, in Salem, Ill.
Griffaw worked at General Motors in St. Louis a number of years, retiring in 1973.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Charlie Griffaw of Winfield, Mo.; six daughters, Scherry Griffaw and Mary Jayroe of Austin, Texas, Germaine Jeffrey of Louisville, Ky., Wanda Piechoinski and Julie Huffman of Elsberry, and Elizabeth Dunn of Vandalia, Ill.
Also surviving are two brothers, Donald and Tom Griffaw of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Frances North of Oklahoma, Mary Griffaw of Cape Girardeau; 32 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, a brother, and a sister.
