Charles "Charlie" Camp, 77, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.
He was born Sept. 12, 1933, in Sturdivant, Mo., to Hunter L. and Lucile Copman Camp. He and Wilma Mansker were married June 4, 1954, at Arbor, Mo.
Charlie was a graduate of Chaffee High School.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Princeton.
Charlie was a member of Shawnee Hills Baptist Church in Jackson, and a lifetime member of VFW. He was a business agent 16 years with Cement Masons Local 908. He had been a cement mason instructor 13 years with the U.S. Job Corps in Puxico, Mo., and Shreveport, La., and was a former grand counselor of UCT. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Camp of Cape Girardeau; a son, Jeffrey Camp of Jackson; a daughter, Deborah Hunt of Tulsa, Okla.; three sisters, Maxine Polete of Ozark, Mo., Betty Morar of Omaha, Neb., Connie Cossou of Kelso, Mo.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Terry Camp; and a sister, Mary Dever.
A private graveside service with full military honors was held Monday at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum. The Rev. Don Estes officiated.
Ford and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
