DONGOLA, Ill. -- Charles c. Sheffer, 88, of Benton, Ky., formerly of Mounds and Sandwich, died early Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997, at Murray-Calloway County Hospital in Murray, Ky. DONGOLA, Ill. -- Charles c. Sheffer, 88, of Benton, Ky., formerly of Mounds and Sandwich, died early Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997, at Murray-Calloway County Hospital in Murray, Ky.

He was born Sept. 3, 1909, at Dongola, the sonof James Wilford and Cora Belle Keller Sheffer. He married Lois clifford Aug. 13, 1938.

Sheffer was employed by E.L. Bruce of Cairo for 22 years and Caterpillar Inc. of Aurora for 16 years until his retirement in 1974.

Survivors include his wife of Benton, Ky.; a son, Lannie Sheffer of Yorkville; a sister, Violet Lingle of Benton, Ky.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Crain Funeral Home in dongola. Burial will be in American Legion Cemetery.
